Friday Project 1

Izzy Hoover

So my story is basically about the huntmsan the King sends into the forest to find out about the crazy wildman. I thought maybe the huntsman could be from different parts of the world, and then I thought mongolia and how they are great hunters and that's basically incorporated into their lifestyle. So my hunters are basically nomads that travelled to the king's city, and offered their services as freelancing assassins, basically..

The hunter I had in mind that attracted me was one that had a bit of a wild-side to them, they live off the land and become one with nature when they are going out into the wilderness. They use animal parts, animals (pet eagles not drawn yet) and other things to help them finish their goal. The one I particular idea I'd like to expand upon is the concept of a wild-woman. But that's still in early stages.

  2. Jose: keep going, I wanna see more. Is this from a particular region? I'm having trouble imagining where this guy sees through the mask. Also, it still looks kinda stiff.. and I don't think its necessarily the pose. I think it's the rhythms of your major lines/arcs. Check this one out: http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Oqcj59vMVuA/UMBWT0ePraI/AAAAAAAAFwY/KGS2-y_kr_U/s1600/Dota2_PhantomAssassinConcept.jpg
See how there is a definitely language to her design, there are curves, and straights, the curse of the shoulder pad lead to the straights of her helmet and the straights of her cloak. I think that's something to think about when you go to a more finalized state.

Alvyn: Interesting stuff! The idea is really awesome. So these guys come back to life out of the tar to terrorize people? I think you're on an awesome start. I feel like you could push even more. I can see that you have skulls and little bones and big bones, but think silhouettes. You've got the starts of a great concept, but now it's time to really think about the design of the character. Use a big black marker to shape out your silhouettes to find pleasing shapes. These line drawings are good for finding interesting variants of shapes, but it's hard to see the shape that results while you're working. Also make sure your guys are still mobile, some of them looks like they wouldn't be able to move too well, haha.
Also, I can't really tell, but maybe play with the idea that the human skeletons dont just wear other animal's skeletons for armor, maybe they actually replace certain parts of their body with the animal parts, so maybe they have a dinosaur head, or maybe they have huge mammoth femurs for arms, and then a tusk for their hand. I think you also might want to think about how these bones stick together - maybe the tar somehow holds them in place? You're off to a great start, keep going and do more!!

  3. thanks for the crit

Im diggin your first pass - from your description, your designs pretty much matches what you were going for.

I got more of a hunter vibe than an assasin vibe. It could be more "Wild" as the over all costume feels pretty organized and all the cotume peices look like they belong there, if there were some out of place peices or stray fur/hair, leaves, it could push the wild look.

Izzy: I feel that your guys look more historically accurate rather than being in a fantasy world. by historicaly accurate I mean it looks like you grabbed what you liked from your reff and put it together instead of grabbing the parts you liked and really pushing it. I also think that you can make things my interesting by playing with asymmetry. Maybe one shoulder pad is bigger than the other or one arm has thick armor; like the design of the guy standing and holding a bow (his legs are asymmetrical)The horse in the first design feels really small compared to the guy.

Alvyn: I like where you are heading and I agree with izzy. You can really go crazy with your designs. The line up with 3 guys on it the first one looks like he cant look to his side because his shoulders are too big. Think up how this guys can move while you draw them. Also play with some asymmetry like the guy with the mamoth (?) head and the tusks are protruding out, you can have one broken tusk or maybe half his skull is bashed in. try not to even out your shapes like the shark in the middle he isnt top heavy or bottom heavy or doesnt vary. think about where you want to emphasis on your information.

    good start guys!!
